What is ZHLS cable?

At a glance

Cable with a sheath that gives off little smoke and no halogen gases if it burns. ZHLS = zero halogen, low smoke.

Why: In enclosed spaces a burning PE sheath gives off thick toxic smoke, so inside buildings, subsurface stations and long tunnels the sheath type matters for safety.

Where: Subsurface stations, long tunnels, and inside buildings or REBs where the internal run is long. Standard PE-sheathed cable may only run a limited distance in before ZHLS is needed.
