Rail Telecoms One Stop

About this site

Rail Telecoms One Stop is run by Opstel Services Ltd, a UK railway telecoms design consultancy. It exists because the first years in rail telecoms design are spent working out which of a few hundred standards actually applies to the job in front of you, and which clause inside it.

The standards finder is a map, not a copy. For each current NR/TEL standard we list the clause numbers and titles and add a one-line note, in our own words, on what the clause deals with. We never reproduce the standard's requirements. You read those on the Network Rail Standards Portal, which is free to register for if you work in the supply chain.

Notes are written by a practising designer and checked against the issue we hold. They can still be wrong or out of date — standards change quarterly — so treat every line here as a pointer to go and read, not as the answer.

What is coming

Opstel-original Visio stencils and blank design frames for FTN node and REB designs; a fictional worked example route with copper SLD, fibre SLD and splicing diagram; and a bill-of-materials builder backed by a PADS-referenced item catalogue.
